Ellie Chalupsky, a four-time South Carolina High School Champion from Bishop England High School across both the 3A and 4A divisions, is headed to Arizona State, joining the Sun Devils’ class of 2030.
I’m extremely blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Arizona State University. I want to thank my parents, family, coaches, friends, and most importantly God for the guidance and support along the way. Thank you Coach Herbie and the ASU coaches for giving me this amazing opportunity. I am so grateful to be part of this team & for my future as a Lady Devil! Go Sun Devils! Forks Up!
The Charleston, SC, brought home her first South Carolina High School state titles as a Sophomore, competing in the 3A division in October of 2023. She stopped the clock in 57.04 in the 100 butterfly and 58.26 in the 100 backstroke, earning her first of four career individual state championships.
The following year, as a junior, Chalupsky doubled down on those two races, this time in the 4A division. She clocked 55.35 in the 100 fly (a 1.69-second drop from the year before), and 55.77 in the 100 back (2.49 seconds better than her 2023 performance). Earning her 3rd and 4th individual titles.
She has raced the 100 back all three years at the South Carolina State Championships, having placed 2nd as a freshman in 3A (59.01). All three years she has spent at Bishop England have resulted in team state titles.
None of those races, however, mark her top performances in her career; some of her best swims came at the SwimAtlanta Best of the South meet this past March, where she set lifetime standards in the 200 back (1:58.47), 200 freestyle (1:49.87), 50 free (23.12), and 100 fly (55.75). She also lowered her 100 back best earlier this year at the South Carolina Senior Short-Course Championships, touching in 54.68.
Best Times SCY:
- 200 Back: 1:58.47
- 100 Back: 54.68
- 200 Free: 1:49.87
- 100 Fly: 55.75
- 50 Free: 23.12
- 100 Free: 51.26
The Arizona State women took home the Big 12 title last season at the 2025 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships in their first season in the conference, though on the national level, they still lag behind their male counterparts. Still, they made progress in that regard in 2025, finishing 19th at last season’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (five spots better than their 24th-place finish in 2024).
Chalupsky’s best times would have qualified 8th in the 100 back, 15th in the 200 back, and 25th (1st alternate) in the 200 free.
Caroline Bentz was a headliner for the Sun Devil women a year ago, winning the 100 and 200 backstrokes at Big 12s in her senior campaign in Tempe. While not yet on the level of Bentz, Chalupsky is a prospect with a steep progression over the last two years alone. She could find herself filling in the Bentz-type role in the coming years, especially with her range of possible events and with the departure of Bentz from Arizona State.
The Sun Devils are also adding another incoming freshman from the Charleston area: Jack Troy from nearby Mt. Pleasant.
The Sun Devils add Chalupsky to their 2026 recruiting class, which includes Alyssa Albertyn, Wren Smith, Maya Hetland, Haddie Vohs, Riley Christensen, Lilly Jane Allison, Rowan Biffart, and Belis Sakar.
Chalupsky was also named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American last season.
