Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Brock Niagara Aquatics’ Peyton Leigh will head south to the University of Miami (FL) to join the Hurricanes for the 2026-2027 season.

I am beyond excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Miami to swim NCAA Division I. I would like to thank my parents, sister, family, teammates, Coach Dave, and the coaching staff at The University of Miami for helping me achieve this. I can’t wait for this new journey to begin!!

GO CANES!! 🧡💚🙌

Leigh is both a long-course and short-course Canadian, having claimed a pair of 15-17 age group long-course titles in July of 2024 at the Speedo Canadian Swimming Championships when she set lifetime bests in the 800 freestyle (8:52.22) and 1500 free (16:54.65). At those championships, she also set an all-time personal mark in the 400 free, touching 2nd in 4:18.20.

More recently, Leigh nabbed a short course 800 free title in early August of this year, when she touched in 8:43.37, marking her fastest ever performance in the event. That same meet came with another three best times for Leigh, in the forms of the 400 free (4:11.92, 2nd overall), 200 IM (2:16.84, 4th overall), and the 50 free (26.67, 23rd).

The Niagara on the Lake, ON, native also competed at the Canadian Trials (LCM) this summer, where she finished 6th in the 1500 free (17:15.83), and 7th in both the 400 free (4:22.66) and 800 free (9:03.98).

Best Times Converted to SCY:

Event LCM SCM SCY Conversion
400 Free 4:11.92
4:47.90 (500 Free)
200 Free 2:00.59 1:48.83
800 Free 8:43.37 9:58.13 (1000 Free)
1500 Free 16:54.65 16:34.75 (1650 Free)

The Miami women finished 10th at last season’s ACC swimming and diving championships. Based on the converted times for Leigh, she would have finished 21st in the 1650 free, 30th in the 500, and tied for 44th in the 200 free.

Her distance freestyle is already points worthy within the ACC, and she will have another full year to build on that before she officially joins the program.

The Miami women only scored 15 points between the 500 free and 1650 free at ACCs last season, so the addition of Leigh will add some potential scoring depth to a relatively low-scoring portion of the Hurricanes roster.

Following her performance at the 2024 Canadian Olympic Trials, Leigh actually qualified to represent Canada on the World Junior Open Water Team, but according to an article from Niagara Now, Leigh and her coach had decided it was best not to partake, not knowing if she would enjoy swimming open water competition.

Miami adds Leigh to its Miami class of 2030 that includes Joslyn Bolton and Taylor Johannsen.
